Sony Xperia U Review 2012 – Technology Times

Sony Xperia U Specifications

The Xperia S has all the spotlight to itself in the NXT series, but history has taught us that Sony (and previously Sony Ericsson) can do wonders in the compact class. The Xperia U follows a similar pattern in terms of design with the other phones in the NXT series. In fact it looked like the miniature version of the Xperia S we reviewed earlier. The phone comes in an all-black casing with a matte finish at the back. Other notable design factors include a silver ring around the camera and the transparent chin with the Xperia branding underneath.  In two generations of minis and the Xperia ray, the Japanese have delivered packages that no one in the same price range can beat.

Sony has managed to pull off a defining style with their NXT series but it comes with its own share of limitations.  The bar shaped Xperia U has a boxy design that makes the smartphone look youthful and trendy, yet appealing to users of all ages. The Xperia has a transparent strip at the bottom that lights up when you press the three capacitive dots above it; a unique design element that makes the Xperia U stand apart. The sleek design neatly packs a 3.5 mm audio jack and microphone on top and another mic on the bottom.

As a phone, the Xperia U cannot be faulted. The second microphone cancels out ambient noise and call quality was consistently good, so long as the signal was as well. The loudspeaker is average at best, though this is nothing new.
