History of Short Message Service (SMS) -Technology Times

As per the information/statistics from Wikipedia, short message service was first sent through Vodafone GSM network in the United Kingdom. On 3rd December 1992, the handset which used this service first was termed as Orbitel 901 handset.  The person who sent the SMS was Neil Papworth. The text read as “Merry Christmas”.

The technology behind the sending and receiving of SMS lies back to 19 years back.  It was first develo0ped by the company termed as Franco-German GSM cooperation in 1984 by Friedhelm Hillebrand.  It was then sent after eight years as a simple text “Merry Christmas”.
So the text message technique turns 19 years old today in 2012.  Every one of us uses this service in our daily lives.  Sometimes it is best to send a SMS then to make a call to the other end.  In 2010, SMS texts sent was made $114.6 billion in revenues worldwide.  This statistics is increasing everyy7ear and it’s building the telecom systems with more features and generating much revenue than ever.  So, this is the all story of our own SMS service which has turned to 19 years old and still it’ll be the best service as far as the telecom communications is concerned.
