Here
is the latest camera from Samsung. The Samsung NX10 is the first camera in the mirror
less NX series, announced at CES 2010, a few months after Samsung made the NX-mirror
less development notice. For the Samsung NX10, the whole feels like a lot more
than the sum of the parts. Except for a nice design, surprisingly good lenses,
and its status as the first interchangeable-lens camera (ILC) with a relatively
large APS-C-size sensor, there doesn't seem to be anything particularly
outstanding about the camera's feature set, performance or photo quality when
taken individually. The Samsung NX10 is not only starting the attack on the
Micro Four Thirds System, but also on the traditional SLR camera. This is a
daring move, especially because Samsung was previously known for its Pentax clones.
With the NX10, Samsung has something new to offer, or actually several things. Not
only is it the first camera that the brand has developed all by itself, it is
also one of the first cameras on the market with changeable lenses, an APS-C
sensor, and without a mirror. In 2005, Pentax and Samsung partnered to jointly
develop DSLR cameras. Nevertheless, my overall experience with the NX10 and
opinion about the camera is a lot more positive than the individual ratings
would indicate. The NX10's image quality results surpassed my expectations. Contrast
is a bit strong, which the majority of users will enjoy due to it helping
photos "pop" a bit more. However, the sacrifice is loss of some
details, and it can also bring out more noise in low contrast areas. The camera
is a good alternative for a person who loves to go mobile every time and to
capture the moments.
This
camera produces beautiful photos in a variety of lighting conditions. In bright
outdoor lighting, the NX10 produced pleasing exposures that show vivid colors
and good sharpness. Pentax brought its experience with interchangeable lenses
and optics to the table, and Samsung brought its expertise in digital media and
semiconductor products. Samsung has marketed what are basically re-badged
Pentax DSLRs (Pentax's K10D and 20D, Samsung's GX10 and 20), but the NX10 marks
a departure from both the DSLR script and simple re-badging.
